Data Engineer - IoT & Analytics (m/f/d)

What's the role?

Hilti is investing massively into growing its software business and digitizing its customers’ processes. The Hilti IoT Data Platform provides key capabilities encompassing the collection, processing, and analysis of tool data to enable business use cases supporting our growth ambition. As a Data Engineer within the IoT & Analytics team, your primary responsibility will involve the development, deployment, and maintenance of data pipelines essential for supporting advanced analytics and business intelligence requirements within Hilti's Customer-facing software solutions. You will collaborate closely with key stakeholders across the business and various IT teams to seamlessly integrate and transform necessary data into the Data Platform.

What does the role involve?

In your role as Data Engineer, you will interact directly with various stakeholders (business team, data scientists, analytics teams) to understand the data demand in line with the customer use case and in turn, design and develop scalable ETL packages from the business source systems, including development of ETL routines, to bring these data into the data platforms.

The role will require you to:

  • Be responsible to create databases optimized for performance, implementing schema changes and maintaining data architecture standards across the centrally provision business databases.
  • Be responsible to perform thorough testing and validation in order to support the accuracy of data transformations.
  • Lead innovation through exploration, benchmarking, making recommendations and implementing big data technologies.
  • As a senior team member, you will also be coaching junior members of the team.

What you need is:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters Degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, Engineering (Computer/Telecommunication), Science & Technology, or related fields 
  • Minimum of 6 years of hands-on experience in leveraging AWS and/or other data analytics platforms, with a proven track record of delivering sophisticated solutions
  • Demonstrate proficiency in SQL and Python programming
  • Exhibit strong analytical prowess
  • Lead the design, construction, and maintenance of ETL pipelines and the data warehouse infrastructure for the organization
  • Display expertise in data modeling and optimization of query performance across platforms such as SQL, Redshift, AuroraDB, or equivalent
  • Facilitate seamless integration of SAP and/or Salesforce data, leveraging data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI
  • Possess a keen problem-solving acumen, self-driven, and proactive
  • Demonstrate adeptness in managing multiple tasks under stringent timelines
  • Collaborative team player, adept at fostering synergy within diverse teams
  • Exhibit exceptional communication skills in English
